If you had met me as a child, you probably would have described me exactly the way my teachers did:

"A good student, but very quiet."

Actually, if I'm honest, many people would probably still describe me that way today.

The funny thing is, I've never felt quiet.

Inside my head there's usually a running commentary, a to-do list, three unfinished conversations, a random song from the 1980s, and at least one completely unnecessary worry. So when people call me quiet, I'm always a little surprised.

Growing up, I was the kid who dreaded speaking in front of the class. I hated being called on unexpectedly. Group activities? Hard pass. I worried easily and felt stress deeply — not just in my mind, but throughout my entire body.

For a long time, I assumed that was just who I was.

An anxious person.

A worrier.

Someone whose nervous system came with a factory defect.

Then something changed.

I decided that if I couldn't beat stress, maybe I could study it.

And that decision ended up shaping my entire life.

Becoming a Professional Student of Stress

Over the years, I earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Biochemistry, a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology, and eventually a PhD in Psychology. I became a certified hypnotherapist, worked in mental health settings for more than two decades, and later expanded my work into nervous system regulation and body-based therapies.

But here's the truth:

The most valuable thing I learned wasn't in a classroom.

It was learning how to calm my own nervous system.

Because knowledge is wonderful.

But knowing why you're anxious at 2:00 a.m. isn't nearly as helpful as knowing how to stop being anxious at 2:00 a.m.

Why SomaCalm Exists

SomaCalm was born from a simple belief:

You don't have to spend the rest of your life fighting your own mind.

Most people have tried relaxation.

Most people have tried positive thinking.

Many have tried therapy.

Some have even tried convincing themselves they're fine while simultaneously Googling symptoms at midnight.

The problem is that stress, anxiety, overwhelm, and sleep issues often live deeper than conscious thought. They're patterns in the nervous system.

That's why SomaCalm focuses on three essential steps:

Regulate. Reset. Rewire.

Then we help create lasting change at the subconscious level.

Because when your nervous system changes, everything changes.

My Philosophy: Set the Bar Ridiculously Low

One of my favorite life strategies is setting the bar low enough that success is almost guaranteed.

Seriously.

Some people set goals like:

"I'm going to meditate for an hour every day."

Meanwhile, I'm over here thinking:

"What if we start with three minutes?"

I've learned that tiny wins create momentum.

  • A calmer breath.
  • One better night's sleep.
  • One less panic spiral.
  • One small choice that moves you in the right direction.

Those small victories don't stay small.

They stack.

And eventually, one day, you realize:

"I'm not exactly sure when this happened, but I feel better."

That's actually how real change works.
